Sweetening Your Wednesday

Embracing the Season: Family Adventures, Fall Flavors & Inspiring Discoveries

Happy Wednesday, dear readers! It feels like just yesterday we were wrapping up last week, and here we are again, diving into another exciting mid-week update. Like many of you, our family experienced another wonderfully busy week and weekend, packed with memorable moments and a few everyday adventures. These weekly glimpses into our lives, shared alongside delicious recipes and intriguing finds, are truly one of my favorite ways to connect with all of you.

The biggest highlight that truly kicked off our weekend with boundless energy was watching our five-year-old step onto the soccer field for his very first game. The sheer joy and enthusiasm radiating from these little athletes are infectious! It was incredibly fun to cheer him on, marveling at his boundless energy as he ran around. The conditions were certainly a challenge – these poor kids were sprinting for two hours straight, tackling both practice drills and a spirited scrimmage, all under the scorching 95°F heat! Despite the intense warmth, their determination and the pure fun they were having made it the absolute highlight of our entire weekend. Being a soccer mom is turning out to be even more enjoyable than I imagined!

There’s something incredibly special about watching your children explore new interests and discover the joy of team sports. The camaraderie, the learning of new skills, and the simple act of running freely are all aspects I cherish. It reinforces the importance of encouraging their passions and being present for these precious moments. Every cheer, every little goal (even if it’s in the wrong direction!), and every high-five fills my heart with so much pride.

Woman with freshly colored, styled hair after a long salon appointment

Beyond the soccer fields, another significant chunk of my week was dedicated to a much-needed hair transformation. I literally spent a solid four and a half hours in a salon chair getting my hair colored – yes, it truly took that long to achieve the perfect shade! One of the most unexpectedly difficult aspects of moving to a new area has been finding a new hairdresser. It might sound a bit vain, but it’s genuinely challenging to find someone who understands your hair, your style, and who you can trust with such an important part of your self-care routine. It’s a truth many of us can relate to!

This brings me to a very important question that often sparks lively debate: how much do you typically tip your hairdresser? After spending a pretty penny on a meticulous cut and color service, it can be quite daunting to fork out a substantial amount more for a tip. It’s a common dilemma, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and practices. So, please, tell me in the comments below: what do YOU do when it comes to tipping your hairstylist? I’m genuinely curious about your perspectives!

Sunday brought a different kind of tradition to our home. Instead of attending church in person, we opted for a more relaxed approach and watched it on TV. This has become one of our favorite weekends of the year, allowing for a slower, cozier pace. As per our cherished tradition, I transformed our kitchen into a hub of culinary activity, preparing a magnificent feast of delicious foods. While I’ll be sharing the specific recipes for these soon, rest assured, they were truly divine! Among the treats, I also whipped up a batch of incredibly scrumptious sticky buns. They were absolutely yummy, sticky, sweet, and perfect for a relaxed morning. The best part of the day? We really loved staying in our comfortable clothes all day long, embracing the ultimate Sunday comfort. It’s these little moments of family tradition and relaxation that truly recharge us for the week ahead.

Reliving Past Favorites: Recipes from Years Gone By

Sometimes, the classics are exactly what we need, or perhaps you’re looking for something new to try that has already passed the test of time. Here are a few gems from this time in years past that continue to be highly recommended:

  • Healthy Homemade Granola: Elevate your breakfast routine with this simple yet incredibly satisfying granola. It’s infinitely customizable, allowing you to add your favorite nuts, seeds, and dried fruits for a perfect start to your day.

Inspiring & Intriguing Favorite Finds

Beyond our daily routines and delicious meals, I love discovering things that inspire, entertain, or simply make life a little easier. Here are some of my recent favorite finds that caught my attention:

  • This story truly warmed my heart. A simple college game day sign, originally a lighthearted plea for “beer money,” unexpectedly snowballed into a massive charitable effort, raising over $200,000 for a children’s hospital. It’s a beautiful testament to the power of collective kindness and how small actions can lead to monumental impact.
  • I totally found myself in tears when I watched this. It’s a powerful reminder of the profound impact of justice and compassion in our society. The raw emotions and human connection portrayed were deeply moving.
  • You guys… an apple cider donut cake! Yes, you read that right. Imagine the cozy, spiced flavors of a classic apple cider donut, but in cake form. This recipe looks absolutely divine and is definitely on my fall baking bucket list. It combines the best of two beloved autumnal treats.
  • Feeling stressed or overwhelmed by the daily grind? Consider this perspective. The article explores the calming and therapeutic benefits of living near water, or even just incorporating water elements into your life. It’s a gentle reminder to seek out tranquility and find moments of peace amidst chaos.
  • Mint colored shoes, yes please! I’m absolutely smitten with this refreshing hue. It’s such a chic and unexpected pop of color that can instantly elevate any outfit, adding a touch of playful sophistication.
  • I go through a decent amount of fresh herbs in my cooking, and to prevent waste, I’ve finally decided I need to start freezing them. This clever method is a game-changer for preserving their freshness and flavor for long-term storage, ensuring you always have aromatic herbs on hand without the pressure of using them all up immediately.
  • Marie Kondo’s second book has also caught my attention. After the global phenomenon of her first book, I’m intrigued to see how she applies her philosophy of tidying and sparking joy to the workplace. It promises to be an insightful read for anyone looking to declutter their professional life and boost productivity.
  • I’ve been on a big puzzle kick recently. Doing puzzles is incredibly relaxing and re-energizing; it’s a wonderful way to unwind and engage your mind without screens. I found this gorgeous one of Central Park, capturing the iconic beauty of the city’s green heart, and this charming autumn puzzle, brimming with cozy seasonal imagery. I’m totally smitten with both! However, in the end, I ended up purchasing this delightful Christmas one. My plan is to wrap it up and let my son open it on December 1st. It’ll be a fun and festive activity we can work on together throughout the entire month, building anticipation for the holiday!
  • This Dutch apple pie looks absolutely amazing! The classic combination of sweet apples and a crumbly streusel topping makes it an irresistible dessert, perfect for any fall gathering or a comforting treat on a cool evening.
  • Finally, these pumpkin swirl cheesecake bars are almost too pretty to eat – almost! The elegant swirl of pumpkin and cream cheese atop a buttery crust creates a visually stunning and incredibly delicious dessert that’s perfect for celebrating the flavors of autumn.
